Dr. Leah Birdwell, D.O.

Leah Birdwell, DO, FAAP grew up in Texas and Maryland. She completed her undergraduate degree at University of Maryland in 2016. After college she worked as a medical assistant at a family practice prior to attending medical school at VCOM in Blacksburg, VA. During medical school she met her husband, Ryan, who was a student at Virginia Tech, and they loved the area so much they decided to stay.  She completed her residency at Carilion Children’s Hospital.  Following residency she worked as a community hospitalist and nursery physician prior to joining Physicians to Children in 2025. She is board certified in Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Birdwell loves working with children of all ages and has a passion for helping caregivers navigate the adventures of parenthood.

Although neither Dr. Birdwell nor her husband are from SW Virginia originally, they consider the area home. They have a son, Julian, and a Goldendoodle, Bodhi. When not at work you can find her outdoors with her family, reading a book, baking, or working on her latest cross stitch or knitting project.
